Hartford is hosting one of its biggest cultural events in years this summer. Long Weekend Hartford runs from July 1 to July 5, 2026 — five days of film, art, music, culture, and technology spread across the city in celebration of America's 250th anniversary. If you're visiting Hartford for Long Weekend or live in Barry Square, here's what you need to know.

What is Long Weekend Hartford?
Long Weekend Hartford is a free citywide festival rooted in Hartford's historic identity as the place where America, as the organizers describe it, first learned to write itself into existence. The festival transforms Hartford into what they call a connected campus of ideas, with performances and experiences spread across Bushnell Park, the Connecticut River waterfront, the Old State House steps, the Wadsworth Atheneum, converted warehouses, and downtown rooftops.

The festival brings together artists, filmmakers, musicians, technologists, chefs, and community members to explore American history and imagine what comes next. Most events are free and open to the public.

When & Where
Long Weekend Hartford runs from Wednesday July 1 through Sunday July 5, 2026. Events are spread across multiple downtown Hartford venues within a short distance of Barry Square, including Colt Park, Bushnell Park, the Connecticut River waterfront, the Wadsworth Atheneum, and the Old State House.

Concerts, Events & Tickets
Long Weekend Hartford features events across all five days ranging from free community gatherings to ticketed theater and sports. Here are the highlights:

On July 1, the festival opens with a free Kickoff Concert at Mortensen Riverfront Plaza from 6pm to 8pm. Colt Park located just near Barry Square hosts the Opening Ceremony for Honoring the Spirit of Colt: A Monumental Restoration from noon to 4pm, making it the closest Long Weekend event to the neighborhood.

On July 2, the Connecticut Sun face the Dallas Wings at PeoplesBank Arena at 8pm, a ticketed WNBA game running alongside the festival. TheaterWorks Hartford hosts Woody Sings: A Hootenanny featuring the music of Woody Guthrie from 6:30pm to 8pm.

On July 3, the Long Weekend Film Festival screens All Good Things at the Wadsworth Atheneum at 2pm. A 21-plus Film Festival Happy Hour follows at Hartford Flavor Cocktail Parlour from 5pm to 7pm and requires registration. Sweeney Todd continues at Hartford Stage with an evening performance at 7:30pm.

On July 4, the centerpiece is Hartford Bonanza 2026 at Bushnell Park, running from noon to 10pm and free to attend. The Hartford Bonanza 250th Commemorative Concert featuring the Hartford Symphony Orchestra and guest artists begins at 7:30pm. Fireworks over Bushnell Park follow at 9:30pm, with the rain date being Sunday July 5. Hartford Stage presents Sweeney Todd with matinee and evening performances at 2pm and 7:30pm, ticketed. Earlier in the day, the Connecticut State Capitol hosts A Recommitment to the Ideals of the Declaration from 10am to 11am and Hall of Flags from 9am to 10am, both free and family friendly.

On July 5, the rain date for fireworks if needed, the Wadsworth Atheneum hosts a Curator Talk on Radical Roots at 1pm requiring registration, followed by a screening of Revolutionary Road at 2pm as part of the Film Festival. Hartford Stage presents a final matinee of Sweeney Todd at 2pm. The day's community highlight is America's Potluck at Constitution Plaza from 2pm to 6pm, a free celebration open to all. On-street parking in downtown Hartford is free on Saturdays and Sundays, which covers July 4 and July 5 during Long Weekend. On weekdays during the festival (July 1, 2, and 3) downtown meters are generally in effect from 8am to 6pm. Always read posted signage carefully as rules vary by block.
